In WoW arenas, their match search algorithm was set up to get the player as close to 50% success rate as possible. However, I've had a very difficult time finding information on how they determine match-ups. With this type of ranking system it's good to not worry so much about your record, although I imagine it's frustrating to lose more than you win. Your low success rate probably just indicates that you're on the lower end of the Gold league, but it doesn't imply that you aren't good enough for that league.
